Niels Erik From was born in Denmark and trained as a silversmith. In 1931, he opened his first shop, where he sold his own jewellery designs. The company remained in business until 2009.

In the early years from 1930-50s he was inspired by the Skønvirke style (Danish Art Nouveau). From the 60s and ongoing his designes evolved towards a modern, minimalist style with a fine sense of form, balance and aesthetics

Niels Erik From is today regarded as one of the key figures in Danish silversmithing and jewellery design. His work represents the transition from traditional Danish craftsmanship to the modernist design that characterised Danish design in the mid-20th century.
