HOLSTEBRO SLAUGHTERHOUSE, 2018 - 2020
In 2014 Danish Crown closed the slaughterhouse in Holstebro and in 2015, Holstebro Municipality took over the approximately nine-hectare slaughterhouse site in the middle of the city.
The lot was cleared except for the iconic main building and a few side buildings. New functions were to inhabit the industrial buildings. To be able to do so, new architectural initiatives were initiated and new boxes inserted within the large production rooms in the main building. These "rooms in the room" boxes are designed with the possibility to add more as the need arises and to make room for different functions. With the approach that it should be easy to build, affordable and easy to move again the boxes fulfills the changing needs of the daily users - artists, dancers and other creatives.
