Bernhard Hertz belongs to one of the most well-known Danish goldsmith companies.
Bernhard Hertz (1834 - 1909) established a silverware factory in Copenhagen called Bernhard Hertz Guldvarefabrik. His former building in was listed in 1989. His company Bernhard Hertz A/S, founded in 1858.
B. Hertz completed his apprenticeship as a goldsmith in 1858. His apprentice piece, a bangle, was purchased by King Frederik VII for 300 rigsdaler. The bangle is now on display at the Designmuseum Danmark.
Hertz used the money from the sale to start his own business that same year. He specialized in modern jewelry with floral motifs and replicas of old jewelry. The company was a leader in the Art Nouveau style in the early 20th century.
